Why EVERY Visualista Should Be On Pinterest

Did you know that Pinterest is currently listed as one of the top 3 social media sites? Right behind Facebook and Twitter. It’s true! Just take a look at the user stats [INFOGRAPHIC] provided by the good folks at Mashable. Think of Pinterest as your own creative portfolio w/ an added shot of Espresso!

Retailers are starting to have a huge presence on Pinterest and that means, not only are they promoting their brand but recruiters are looking for creative talent to hire as well.

Here are some quick tips on how to incorporate Pinterest into your job search…

  1. Create a Pinterest page dedicated to your Visual Merchandising career. Keep in mind, although your friends may enjoy your favorite recipes or funny memes, your perspective employer may not find it as enjoyable. Keep it career focused and let your inspiration run wild.
  2. Treat your Pinterest page as a beautifully organized version of your portfolio and creative ideas.
  3. Organize your boards by category…Store Design, Mannequins, Creative Ideas, Previous Work, etc.,
  4. The “About” section should paint a clear and dynamic picture of who you are and what you have to offer. Go to the “settings” tab and fill in the blanks. Think of it, as if you were completing a candidate profile.
  5. Have a website or a blog that you’d love to share with potential employers? There’s a space for that! Just add your URL and strut your creative stuff.
  6. Pin your resume.
  7. Target your dream job! Create a board that shows why you’re passionate about a certain brand. Recruiters love to know that you’re serious about their company.
Happy Pinning & Job Hunting!
